Tubing is a relatively small-diameter pipe that is run into a well to serve as a conduit for the passage of oil and gas to the field surface facilities for processing. Tubing must be adequately strong to resist loads and deformations associated with production and work overs. Further, tubing must be sized to support the expected rates of production of oil and gas.
Fluid Conduit : The tubing serves as the primary flow path to transport reservoir fluids (oil, gas, or water) from the bottomhole to surface production facilities. Pressure Containment : It must withstand internal pressure from produced fluids and external annular pressure to maintain well integrity and prevent blowouts/leaks. Production Optimization : Tubing size/material selection (e.g., small-diameter tubing for gas well deliquification) enhances flow efficiency, reduces erosion, and extends well life. Corrosion Resistance : For corrosive environments (H₂S, CO₂, or high salinity), tubing requires special materials (e.g., L80-13Cr) and anti-corrosion treatments to prevent wall degradation.
